Ghana began oil production in 2010 and currently produces about 70,000 barrels a day.
Sharma, who is heading a 200-member trade delegation, India's biggest to any African country, said: "We have a keen interest in the Ghana developing hydrocarbon sector and would discuss this and other sectors for close cooperation."
The exhibition is being jointly organised by the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Ghana, which started oil production in January 2010 and partners with the UK Tullow Oil in the country's Jubilee oil fields, has announced that it will peak its production to about 120,000 barrels next year.
India's interest in Ghana's development was part of its growing interest to play a role in the development of the West Africa region and Africa as a whole through trade, Sharma said at a press conference Monday.
He urged the chambers of commerce in West Africa and India to work towards increasing trade between the two sides from the current $20 billion annually to $40 billion by 2015.
He said: "What we have achieved with trade between India and the West Africa region, it is possible to double the current figure of $20 million over the next three years."
The growth in trade demonstrated India's commitment to partner with Africa for the continent's development, he said, adding the pan-African e-project is "one of the shining examples of cooperation between our people".
Under the project, 47 countries across Africa, have been linked up through the internet and 15 universities have been linked up with their counterparts in India.
"The entire project is without cost or burden to Africa, Sharma said adding, "This is what we believe in and we are not just looking for resources because we believe in investment."
He said India looks at the other needs of its partners and does this by empowering its people. "Within the past three years, India has educated over 20,000 Africans in its institutions."
Ghana Trade and Industry Minister Hannah Tetteh said cooperation between India and Africa is "rooted in good relationship, and that, there are opportunities of growth across the African continent."
She said the decision to hold the exhibition in Ghana was a demonstration of faith in the country's economy. "This is a good time to invest in Ghana because the country's gross domestic product (GDP) grew at 14 percent last year.
"In addition, there is good prognosis for growth and we intend to keep it so because Ghana is the most stable country in the West Africa region," she added.
Tetteh said investments from Indian companies in Ghana has increased over the past few years.

Mankind manifest detrbuctisliy in itself like all manifestations of Nature.Mankind's base instincts cannot be curbed through celibacy and selflessness. No amount of teachings of any great man will undo the undoing. When a matter has appeared like mankind, like all other matter, it will meet its end with time. Its only we can through the miracles mankind possess, that too a gift of Nature, we can withhold the ultimate demise for a while or make the demise bearable, but the inevitable will happen.Look closely at all the phemomenon of the Nature around us, the Ultimate will loom large.Corruption like other foibles of mankind is the stepping stone towards paganism, the bliss in which the Nature allows mankind to wallow unknonwinly before its ultimate total demise.Mankind in its present form has evolved over time so will be its obliteration.May be Mother Nature has other ideas and we being suservient to it can never gauge.

The rationalist-intellectual Rome and Greece was cueoqnred by Judea, a region under the heal of the Romans and the birthplace of Christianity. Like Judea, India came under the heal of the British. Rationality has made deep inroads in India under foregin rule. It is tempting to conclude that India will play Judea's role, i.e. conquer the conquerer. This may indeed come about in the long run. Who knows? Presently, India is slipping ever more thoroughly into materialism and under the glitter of the Western civilization. Talk to young Indian college students and you will notice the deep alienation they manifest from their own culture and admiration of the West. I met recently a very bright Engineering student graduated from a leading institution in India. She had read more than once, according to her proud report, the Harry Potter set of books. But she had not read any portion of the Ramayana, Mahabharata or Shakuntala. She is not alone in having neglected her own cultural edifice.

Your cataloging of cpourrt practices in India in education, medicine, media and elsewhere is excellent. But the cause of this woeful state of affairs is mis-diagonized Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is the reigning tenet not only in India but also in the US, Britain and many other countries. But nowhere are things as dismal as in India, according to your own account. The pursuit of mammon among Hindus is a disease of long term standing, preceding the British.Hindu bhaktas of the middle ages Kabir, Nanak, Chaitanya all sang criticising the love of mammon among the common folks. Kabir: Man lago yaar fakiri men. Jo kucch payo Ram bhajan men, woh sukh nahin amiri men. They sang these songs because they saw the character of the Indian populace addicted to materialism. The Western problem in contrast is pervasiveness of violence in their culture. Many church sermons in the US are on the topic of peace. Jesus is adulated as The Prince of Peace. In India Gandhi was adulated because he abrogated material consumption and took a vow of poverty. So few Indians can forsake materialism.

Madan,The youth's interest in the west has to do with their need for vatility and colour in their lives. In my humble opinion; with the exception of a handful of people who purely pursue a spiritual ideal and are following purely their soul and nothing else, most people lead a mixed life leaning as much on external things for support as within themselves, they look for support in Mind and Soul. The current generation feels a total disconnect from the embellishments of spiritual life such as rituals and rites, religions and traditions etc; which by the way have long ceased to be embellishments but are now serious ill-habits. Repeating the Gayatri Mantra hundred times a day without sincerely listening to each syllable and striving to know its meaning is to me as insincere as religious' middle-class India's terrible habit of burping out the word OM' after every grand meal! But why in the first place would the youth feel this disconnect with religion, with spiritual life? Obviously because they can't see or haven't experienced the spirit. Their common sense tells them to go after what they can see. So they turn to the west where they find colour and life. True spiritual experiences come to the patient and perseverant individuals, and therefore might for a long while not be for the masses like the Harry Potter books which appeal to the vital and the imagination alone.
